Narcissus – a heroic rispetto

In silence peril lies. The heart’s forlorn
when apricot desires through shadows stray.
The harlequin who hesitates wins scorn,
for April’s blossom cannot brook delay.

He wanders listlessly to azure pools,
the shaded depths of poesy and fools,
where blush the damask ripples of the moon
on images of self that seal his doom.

The heroic rispetto is written in iambic pentameter rather than iambic tetrameter. Its rhyme scheme is abab ccdd.
